Common Car AC Problems That Prevent the System From Working

Accurate Auto advises that there are a handful of car air conditioning problems that will prevent the system from cooling down the inside of your automobile. Don’t worry. If your AC system is not working as it should, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can fix it. Let’s talk about the common problems your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s AC might face.

Compressor

The compressor has two functions in the air conditioning system. First, it converts the refrigerant gas into a refrigerant liquid. Second, it circulates the liquid through the air conditioning system. The caveat with the compressor is that it needs to work. If you have an extended period of time when you are not using your car’s air conditioner, the compressor may break down and failed to do its job the next time you turn the AC on.

Condenser

As the air conditioning refrigerant circulates through the system, it heats up. It needs to be cold in order to cool the air that flows through the vents. The condenser is the air conditioning system part that cools off the hot refrigerant. It uses vents and a fan. It also uses the air that flows through your vehicle’s grille, as it is located directly behind it. If the vents get clogged or the fan breaks down, you may end up with hot air instead of cold air.

Condenser Fan

As we just mentioned, the condenser uses a fan to help it cool off the refrigerant. The fan may break down by itself, or its operation may be impeded by an electrical system problem. Unfortunately, if the condenser fan is not working, the refrigerant will not be cooled down enough to provide ice-cold air blowing through the vents.

Electrical System

The air conditioning system has an electrical system to help it function. The system works with everything from the button that you pushed to turn on the air conditioner to the compressor and condenser. An electrical system problem can prevent the air conditioner from turning on when you press the button or affect other AC system parts such as the condenser fan.

Refrigerant

Finally, the air conditioning system needs plenty of refrigerant in order to cool the air that blows into your car, truck, or utility vehicle. The refrigerant level will be reduced by evaporation over time. Refrigerant can also leak out of the system when it is in its liquid form.
