Seize the Shade
Take advantage of the shade whenever you can. If there is a parking space underneath a full tree, grab it. You want to make sure that the sun’s rays do not make their way through the windows to warm up the interior. If you cannot find a parking space that provides shade, put shades in all of the windows and close the shade to your sunroof or moonroof.
Park in a Garage
In addition to the above, also take advantage of parking garages when you can. Keep your car parked in your home’s garage when you are using it. When you are out and about, park the car in parking garages if they are available. This way, your car is not sitting in the sun. In most cases, parking garages provide air circulation so your vehicle will stay cooler.
Cover Components
Grab some old towels and use them to cover the components inside your car. Cover the car seats and the steering wheel. You can also drape a towel over the center console so it doesn’t get too hot. Make sure to cover the dashboard, as well, to avoid the sun from fading and cracking it.
Crack the Windows
Speaking of cracking, if you crack all of the windows just a little bit, this allows the air to circulate through the automobile. It’s not going to make the vehicle cool enough for people or pets, but it will keep the temperature down a little bit. Every little bit helps.
